Video Highlights: Manchester United 3 – 1 Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester United are back on top of the Premier League after beating Tottenham 3-1 at Old trafford.
United are two points clear at the top of the table, with rivals Chelsea at home to Stoke on Sunday. A win for Chelsea will see them leapfrog United once more as the title race nears its conclusion.
England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was absent due to a groin injury, but two Ryan Giggs penalties and fine goal from Nani gave United a vital win.
The deadlock was broken in the 59th minute when Benoit Assou-Ekotto fouled Patrice Evra. Captain Giggs stepped up to score.
Fourth-placed Spurs hauled themselves back into the match with a 70th minute header from Ledley King. Spurs then pushed for a second goal, but United went ahead again.
Nani cut in from the right on 81 minutes to chip over goalkeeper Huerelho Gomes and then won the second penalty for Giggs in the 87th minute that sealed the win.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said after the game that Wayne Rooney was likely to miss United’s title run in, but would be fit for the World Cup.
