Dimitar Berbatov spared the blushes of new-boy Chris Smalling as Manchester United opened their tour of North America with victory over Celtic in Toronto.
The Bulgaria striker gave United a first-half lead but the Scottish Premier League side drew level on the hour-mark when Smalling, making his debut after a £10m move from Fulham, was penalised for a needless foul on Joe Ledley and former Manchester City striker Georgios Samaras scored from the spot.
However, Berbatov showed some wonderful touches and set up late goals for substitutes Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley as United marked their first appearance in this part for the world for six years with victory in the first of their five games. info
